Introduction: Looking at the Project Brief

Introduction: Looking at the Project Brief -

Within the first couple of lessons of hair and postiche i will be introduced to the essential skills and techniques for hair styling and postiche application. This includes safety around the studio and health and hygiene. I will also learn about the historical contexts and the cultural value relevant to each fashion period and contemporary hair and wig styling. To create a successful project outcome i will learn how to develop my research and establish the relationship between research, design and realisation.

AREAS OF STUDY
  • Introduction to the basic principles wigmaking, styling and maintenance.
  • Health and hygiene and safe working practice within the studio:
  • Introduction to wig making
  • Introduction to the use of wigs and the versatility of postiche with a background of period hair and wig styling
  • Introduction to textual and visual research sources for wigs and postiche.
  • Design development and realisation

Within the year i will be exploring how and why wigs and pastiche are used to transform a model or performer into a character. Many actors and actresses have to make several hair and makeup changes and within this class i will learn how they complete each individual look in a matter of seconds.

The first part of the study we are told to pick a decade from the past 100 years, research a lot into the decade and find out what social and cultural influences reflected on how people wore their hair at the time. We will create the look by using an acrylic wig.

The second part of the project i am going to create a modern fashion hairstyle based on the decade i have chosen.
